What if I told you there's a soccer stadium out there that's nearly three times the size of Wembley, Maracanã, Camp Nou or the Azteca? The real soccer nerds out there might already be thinking of the 1st of May Stadium, where the North Korean National Team plays, which seats about 114,000 people, but there's another on out there with twice the capacity.
I introduce to you the Great Strahov Stadium, in Prague, Czech Republic. This stadium has a capacity for 250,000 fans (56,000 seated), fits within it 9 full size fields and has a total size of 63,500 square meters. To this day it is second largest venue for any sporting event in the world, losing only the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The stadium was originally built for gigantic synchronized gymnastics events in the 1920's and received numerous different events throughout the years such as American football, motor racing, rock concerts and soccer matches.
At the turn of the century there were talks about demolishing the stadium due to it's lack of use and enormous maintenance costs. Luckily, Sparta Prague came in and, with some help from the city, renovated it and turned it into its training ground as well as home to its youth academy and women's team.
