Did you know Colo-Colo is the first ever professional soccer club to play an official match on Easter Island?
In 2009, following a shocking draw against Rapa Nui in the Chilean Cup the countries largest club would have to make the 6 hour plane trip to Easter Island. The occasion was full of festivities to showcase the culture of the small island in the days before the match.
Rapa Nui haphazardly put together a team full of amateurs to face Chile’s most powerful club. Wildly enough 3,000 fans flocked to see this historic occasion. An estimated 500 Colo-Colo fans made the trip and the island which has a total population of 4,000.
Colo-Colo brushed off the locals with a thumping 4-0 win but this match is still remembered fondly by Albos all over the world.
