It is very common for ex-colonies around the world, when talking about soccer, to take inspiration from their European ex-colonizers. For example, there are many clubs named "United" or "City" in ex-English colonies, plenty of "Real" in the Spanish speaking world, and "Stade" in those with French influence.
Among ex-Portuguese colonies, the inspiration usually comes from Portugal's Big 3. Benfica Macau from Macau, Sporting Cabinda from Angola or Porto Caruaru from Brazil, are just some of the many examples. In Cape Verde however, it is a different Portuguese club that gave inspiration to the local league: Academica de Coimbra.
Approximately 10 clubs in the small country of Cape Verde are called "Academica". Not only that, but all of their crests are incredibly similar, almost identical from a far. Because Cape Verde is an archipelago, the league has preliminary matches within each island before going into a national phase of the tournament, which means all of these Academica's don't always play each other every year, however it's not uncommon to have a Academica x Academica match-up.
It is unclear why or how this happened, even though Academica de Coimbra is an extremely traditional club, the oldest club in Portugal actually, it is far from being a powerhouse. Regardless, it does give the local league in Cape Verde a unique aesthetic.
