Few leagues on the planet are as predictable as the Ukrainian Premier League, out of 33 titles 32 have been won by either Dynamo Kiev or Shakhtar Donetsk. The one title that got away from the two giants was won by SC Tavriya Simferopol in the very first edition the league in 1992 after Ukraine's separation from the Soviet Union.
Like all clubs who accomplish something once in history the 1992 squad is historic, however not only were they never able to repeat the feat but political turmoil ultimately ended the club.
Tavriya Simferopol was a club from the city of Simferopol, second largest city in the Crimean Peninsula. When Crimea was annexed by Russia Tavriya Simferopol, along with other clubs from the region, was incorporated into the Russian league under the name FC TSK Simferopol. Simultaneously, in Ukraine, a phoenix club emerged in the city of Kherson 221 kilometers away in the Ukrainian 4th division.
During the 2021/22 season, while Tavriya Simferopol had reached the 3rd division, Russia's invasion had reached Kherson and the club was forced to cease operations. An unfortunate and overall depressing end to a club that made history being the only one who managed to overpower Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk.
